I wear glasses, what are my options when it comes to goggles?

Snow sports here in Summit County require eye protection.  The most common form is the ski goggles.  So, what do you do when you also need glasses?  There are a couple different options.  I haven't seen a pair of ski goggles yet that is capable of putting a prescription into the goggle itself.  The reason for this is the wrap or the bend on the front of the lens.  To create a prescription lens in that heavy of a wrap would create distortions as you look anywhere but straight ahead.  So, what do you do?

You have a couple options: Contact lenses, Fit-overs, or goggle inserts.

If you can wear them, contact lenses are your best option. Even if you don't wear them all the time, but you have some daily disposables to wear when you are skiing, they will give you the best field of view. The problem is dryness. Can you wear them all day, or do they dry out too much?

Zeal and a couple other companies make some fit-over goggles that actually notch out the sides so the glasses inside don't press against the head. A lot of people like this option. Fogging of the glasses can be an issue for some, depending on the venting capability of the goggles.

Your third option is a pair of goggle inserts. They fit inside the goggles and have your prescription in them.

We carry these inserts at our office and can put your prescription in them for $75. The insert fits over the vents of the goggles, so usually does not have a fogging issue. It is considered a universal fit, but we recommend coming in and trying them inside your goggles before you purchase them.

Hopefully, one of these three options will work for you! Enjoy the snow!!
